Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our dedicated driver will warmly greet you and transfer you to Moshi or Arusha, just 45 minutes away. Check into your hotel and meet with your experienced mountain guide for a detailed briefing on your upcoming adventure.

Day 2: Moshi – Starting Point – Big Tree Camp (2,780 m)

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast at Sal Salinero Hotel, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Londorossi Gate (2,250 m), about 2½ hours away. After registration by the national park authorities, a bumpy 15 km track will lead you to the dense rainforest, where your trek begins. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you’ll hike through the natural forest to Big Tree Camp (2,780 m), a journey of approximately 2½ hours.

Day 3: Big Tree Camp (2,780 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m)

Today’s trek takes you through varying landscapes, from rainforest to heath and moorland. After a long ascent and approximately 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you’ll reach Shira Camp 1 for lunch. Continuing for another 3 hours, you’ll ascend to Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m), where you’ll be treated to stunning views of Mt. Meru and the Rift Valley.

Day 4: Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m) – Lava Tower (4,640 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)

Climb approximately 740 m today, reaching an elevation slightly higher than the previous night to allow for acclimatization. Trek through alpine desert to Lava Tower (4,640 m), then descend to Barranco Camp amidst the beautiful Barranco Valley after 6 to 7 hours of hiking.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960 m) – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)

Today’s trek includes ascents and descents, including tackling the steep Barranco Wall. After reaching the summit, enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo’s southern glacier. Arrive at Karanga Camp around lunchtime after this challenging yet rewarding hike.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4,035 m) – Barafu Camp (4,640 m)

After breakfast, trek through an alpine desert area to reach Barafu Camp (4,640 m) in approximately 3 to 4 hours. Rest and prepare for the summit push, with an early dinner before a few hours’ sleep.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,080 m)

Begin the climb to Uhuru Peak around midnight, reaching Stella Point at the crater rim before sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, for breathtaking views. After a short break and photos, descend to Barafu Camp for lunch and rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for overnight.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,080 m) – Mweka Gate (1,630 m) – Moshi

After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, a gentle 2 to 3-hour hike. Enjoy a farewell ceremony from the mountain crew before transferring back to Key’s Hotel in Moshi. The rest of the day is yours to relax and celebrate your incredible achievement.
